Information on the Closed Businesses Lockdown Payment

Feb 1, 2021

Government has released information on The Closed Businesses Lockdown Payment (CBLP) which has been introduced to support businesses that were forced to close due to the national restrictions that began on 5 January 2021.

Businesses may be eligible for the CBLP if they:

  • Are based in England
  • Occupy property on which they pays business rates (and are the ratepayer)
  • Have been required to close because of the national restrictions from 5 January 2021 onwards
  • Have been unable to provide their usual in-person customer service from their premises

Eligible businesses could be entitled to a one-off grant of up to £9,000 from their local council. Eligible businesses can get one grant for each non-domestic property. The grant will be based on the rateable value of the property on the first full day of restrictions.

The grant will be paid to eligible businesses in addition to grants under the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) Addendum for the national lockdown period that began on 5 January 2021.

This includes various business types such as leisure facilities, personal care, sports facilities, tourism and hospitality businesses as well as non-essential retail. It could also include businesses which have been forced to close those services and provide a takeaway-only service instead.
